Sister Wives’ Janelle Brown Reveals Kody Brown’s Financial Struggles Over Coyote Pass Buyout.
Janelle Brown from Sister Wives reveals that her ex-husband Kody Brown is unable to buy her out of Coyote Pass. The 55-year-old TLC star opened up about Kody’s financial situation while discussing her plans to purchase land in North Carolina alongside her former sister wife, Christine Brown, in a sneak peek for the upcoming episode airing on Sunday, November 24, as reported by E!
News. During their conversation, Christine, 52, asked Janelle if she needed to sell any properties to raise the necessary funds for the significant land acquisition. Janelle admitted she was uncertain, saying, “I didn’t know.” Christine then shared her concerns about the financial obligations tied to Coyote Pass, noting that a substantial balloon payment is due soon.
“They have to pay it off in the next couple of months, and if they don’t, they lose it all. Can you imagine? That’s stressful,” she confided in a private confessional. Janelle mentioned that Kody, 55, claimed he would have the funds available when the payment is due in two months.
“That’s what he says, and I told him I want him to buy me out, and he’s like, ‘I don’t have the money,’ and I’m like, ‘OK,’” she recounted. In her confessional, Janelle revealed that she hasn’t informed Kody about her plans to relocate to another state. “I haven’t said anything to him about North Carolina. I don’t really feel the need to share that with him. He’s not gonna be part of that life.”
In 2018, while Kody was still in a marriage with Janelle, Christine, Meri Brown, and Robyn Brown, the Brown family acquired the Coyote Pass property for $820,000. Their original intention was to construct a large home that would accommodate the entire polygamous family. However, the wives quickly dismissed that notion, opting instead for individual houses for themselves and their children.
Several factors delayed the Brown family’s plans to start construction on the property, including disagreements on how to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Tensions rose among family members when it became known that Robyn and Kody had been bringing a nanny into their home to assist with the children. The separations of Christine, Janelle, and Meri, 53, from Kody further stalled the Coyote Pass project. After Christine ended her marriage with Kody in November 2021, she sold her portion of the property to him and Robyn for a mere $10 in July 2022.
A year later, Janelle followed suit, settling her share of Coyote Pass with Kody for $340,000, as documented in the Deed of Release and Full Reconveyance at that time. In the episode aired on November 9, Janelle encouraged Meri to advocate for her rightful share at Coyote Pass.
“I suggest you protect your interest in it, as you’re entitled to a quarter,” Janelle advised Meri while discussing the four adjacent plots. Meri, feeling that “protection” wasn’t necessary, questioned, “Don’t you think we have each other’s backs?” to which Janelle replied, “No, I really don’t.” “I will look out for you, but I want to emphasize, Meri — this is your entire estate. I just want to ensure you’re aware of what’s happening,” Janelle assured her. “I would just make sure that what you’re receiving is fair.”
